Pack Ranks:
They're listed most powerful to least powerful.
Alpha Male/Female: Leaders of the pack. They share power.
Beta: Second-in-command.
Delta: The group of the strongest gammas; they train to become the next beta.
Healer/Shaman: The...well....healer. They also interpret signs in the stars and such from ancestors past.
Gamma: The fighters of the pack. They're the strongest and biggest members of the pack, second only to the deltas.
Hunter: The hunters of the pack. They usually have stronger jaws and longer teeth than most.
Sentry: They patrol the territory and stand gaurd around the camp. Some watch over the pups. They can also double ranks. (They can be both, for example, a gamma and a sentry. Or a hunter and a sentry. And so on.) Sentries often have the sharpest eyes and ears.
Scout: 'Super' sentries. They're the smallest, lightest-built, swiftest members of the pack. They also relay messages to other packs, and therefore are allowed to go into any pack territory and be left unharmed. But only if they're on the job.
Subordinate: young wolves training to be something. If they want to be a gamma, they're trained by a gamma. If they want to be a sentry, they're trained by a sentry. Etcetera.
Omega: they are the single, seemingly friendless wolf, at the bottom of the heap. They usually eat last when the pack makes a kill, and is picked on by the higher-ranking wolves quite a bit. Although they aren't exactly treated fairly, they are protected by the rest of the pack like any other wolf would be. They are like an outcast within society, but they often are the peace-keepers. If there is agression among a few members of the pack, the omega will instigate play to get rid of any tension. I'm sure the alphas are a lot more grateful to the omegas for this than they let on.
